Reminder to comment on upgrades to non-motorised transport infrastructure in Wesbank, Blackheath and Blue Downs

The City would like to remind residents and interested parties to comment on the proposal to upgrade and construct active mobility (non-motorised transport) infrastructure in Wesbank, Blackheath and Blue Downs. The closing date for comments is next week Friday, 7 March 2025.
The scope of the project will include:
• Upgrading and maintaining active mobility facilities in Wesbank, Blackheath and Blue Downs and ensuring facilities are universally accessible
• Upgrading and installing dropped kerbs and tactile ground surface indicators for the visually impaired
• Upgrading pedestrian crossings by shortening the crossing distances, and improving signage and road markings.
• Introducing protected cycle lanes where applicable
‘The proposed upgrades to the non-motorised transport facilities in Wesbank, Blackheath and Blue Downs have been carefully planned by the Urban Mobility team to suit the needs of pedestrians, cyclists and individuals with disabilities. We have identified the need for this infrastructure in these communities and want to improve road safety for the residents. We call on the public to please review these proposals, your input is always valuable as the project team makes the final decisions pertaining to this project,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The roads affected by this active mobility project include:
• Hindle Road between Wesbank Main Road and Eersriv Way
• Bentley Crescent between Eersriv Way and Silversands Avenue
• Eersriv Way between Eersriv Way and the police station entrance.
• Bardale Road between Hindle Road and Silversands Avenue
• Silversands Main Road between Wesbank Main Road and Wesbank sports grounds
• Wesbank Main Road between Hindle Road and Stellenbosch Road
• Vogelvlei Main Road between Wesbank Main Road and Silversands Main Road
• Waterblom Main Street between Silversands Main Road and Wesbank Main Road
• Diepwater Main Road between Waterblom Main Street and Kasba Street
• Marthinus van Schalkwyk Road between Happiness Street and Wesbank Main Road
• Albert Philander Way between Eersriv Way and Raymond Ackerman Avenue
